THIRD FRANCE-ISRAEL
BINATIONAL CONFERENCE IN NEUROSCIENCE
Haifa, Israel, February 2010

We are pleased to announce the Third France-Israel Binational Conference in Neuroscience that will be held in 2010, from February 14th till February 18th, in Haifa, Israel.
This third conference follows the First and Second France-Israel binational conferences in Neuroscience that were held in Ma’ale Hachamisha (Israel, 2004) and in Bordeaux (France, 2007), respectively.
In the context of this major binational event, new scientific collaborations of first rate have been actualized between Institutions of the two countries, contributing directly to the reinforcement and development of a growing French-Israeli active network.

This conference will be organized under the auspices of the French-Israel Neuroscience Neurology and Psychiatry Society (FINNePS) that has been created in January 2008.

More than a hundred leading French and Israeli researchers - including biologists, physicians, psychologists, physicists and mathematicians - investigating brain functions and dysfunctions will take part to the conference. We plan more than seventy invited papers that will deal with such topics as learning, memory, motor control and processing of sensory information by the central nervous system.

More than simply a presentation of recent theoretical and experimental advances, this third conference will give a special attention to the implications of these advances for neurology (i.e., Parkinson disease, amniotrophic lateral sclerosis, motor handicaps) and psychiatry (i.e., schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, treatment of addiction).
In addition, the conference will provide excellent opportunities to launch new joint Franco-Israeli research projects in the neurosciences.

In recent years there has been a troubling rise in the number of calls in France and Europe to boycott Israeli academic institutions. This bi-national conference can thus also act as a forum to express clear cut opposition to this unacceptable violation of academic freedom.
